The National Opera and Ballet Institute is located in the Stopera. Next to the Town Hall.
The complex was completed in 1986. The festive opening of the Muziektheater took place on 23 September of that year. Since then it has been played by Dutch Opera and Dutch National Ballet. In September 1988 the city of Amsterdam moved into the new city hall.
The National Opera & Ballet Institute creates, produces and presents both traditional and innovative opera and ballet productions of the highest quality. As one of the largest cultural institutions in our country, Nationale Opera & Ballet brings together the craft, artistic and technical aspects of the ballet and opera world with its own professional workshops and rehearsal rooms. Dutch National Opera & Ballet is the institute for opera and ballet, which operates both nationally and internationally.
In its own country, Nationale Opera & Ballet wants to keep the opera and ballet tradition alive and develop further. With this, it wants to reach and enthuse a large and diverse audience. Internationally, Dutch Opera & Ballet co-produces and presents its productions in the most prominent houses and theaters. The institute functions in the top five of the world in its fields.
