Welcome traveler. Visit the Central Station Amsterdam not only to get in and out, but go off route and give the beautiful building the attention it deserves.
The station was designed by the famous architect P.J.H. Cuypers. In 1889 the station, which was built on almost 9000 wooden poles, was festively opened. This station is very similar to the Rijksmuseum, also designed by Cuypers. Because of the construction of this station the beautiful view disappeared from the center on the open water of the IJ. But only in this way could it be prevented that railway lines would come straight through Amsterdam.
