Go off the paved streets, go off route and discover Restaurant De Plantage. Around 1860 the ‘Natura Artis Magistra’ grew out of the space of their club in the main building of Artis. Huisarchitect G.B. Salm therefore designed the ‘New Member Rooms’ in 1868. Here concerts, exhibitions and parties were held, and there was even a royal reception room. In 2014, the national monument was restored and renovated. The 19th century atmosphere has been restored and parts of the interior have been reconstructed by artists. Now the atmospheric café-restaurant De Plantage is located here. The terrace, overlooking the Artisplein and flamingos, has been chosen as Terrace of the Year 2016.
